Structural Group, a Baltimore-based specialty-contracting firm that delivers services, systems, and technologies that build, repair, protect, strengthen and reinforce concrete, steel, masonry, timber and soils - has promoted Brian Gallagher to vice president from his position as marketing director. The company has also hired several new team members. The following are in the Hawthorne, N.J. office: Liam Davis, a geotechnical project manager; Edward Sharp, a project manager; Mark Lanza, a project manager; Rob Caputo, a project manager; and Richard Matri, project development for the Wood Division. Also, David Hutto, a project manager; in the Lake Charles, La. office; Clark Spaunhorst, a project manager in the Houston office; and Paul Raiford, the Gulf Coast regional business development manager, also in Houston.

Stephen Brevig has joined Black & Veatch's Enterprise Management Solutions (EMS) organization as director for the Eastern Region.

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has elevated three of its directors to the position of senior director. They include Karthik Obla, director of research and engineering; Kathleen Carr-Smith, director of membership; and Thomas Harman, director of regulatory affairs.

Rob Brittain has been promoted to product manager for LBX Co. from marketing communications manager; and Amy Lindon has been promoted to marketing communications manager from publicity/sales promotions specialist.

Elliott Equipment Co. has hired Douglas Twyford as vice president of sales and marketing. He was previously director of global marketing for Ingersoll Rand Productivity Solutions.

The Southeast Cement Association has hired Barry W. Wilder as pavement applications director for Tennessee, responsible for soil cement, full-depth reclamation using cement, and roller-compacted concrete market development as well as the association's outreach and education efforts.

Jim Ahern, president of Ahern and Associates, a roadway construction firm headquartered in South Charleston, W. Va., and Mike Crow, Kansas Department of Transportation (DOT) director of operations, are the respective private and public sector recipients of the 2006 American Road & Transportation Builders Association's (ARTBA) prestigious "Jake Landen Memorial Safety Award."

Howard Nye has been named president and chief operating officer of Martin Marietta Materials (MMM) in Raleigh, N.C. Nye will be responsible for the operating units and services functions of the second-largest U.S. aggregates producer, and joins MMM from Hanson Aggregates North America, where he was executive vice president.
